Second Night Shavuot Dinner: Special Event! RSVP Required (Wednesday, June 12)
Join us on the second night of Shavuot for an exciting evening featuring a delicious holiday dinner (meat) catered by Esther and Hana Lopez and exciting Torah insights from your friends at the Kehillah!
We are expanding! A personal message from the Rabbi
It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years since we first opened the doors of Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim. What began as a small gathering of souls has grown into a living, breathing spiritual home—filled with Tefillah, Torah, and a growing community that now reaches across the world.
With hearts full of gratitude to HaKadosh Baruch Hu, we’re excited to share that our Kehillah is expanding—and we’re inviting you, our global Shiviti family, to help shape the future with us.
This is not just a remodel; we’re building a new chapter in our shared story. We are doubling the size of our space for our growing local families and for you—members of our extended Shiviti family around the world who come to learn, pray, and celebrate with us in San Diego. The expanded space will include:
A larger Bet Knesset and Bet Midrash, filled with more voices in prayer and more hearts in learning
A children’s playroom, to nurture the next generation in joy and safety
A dining and social hall, for our Shabbat and holiday meals, celebrations, and shared moments of connection
A new kitchen, to support our hospitality and hosting efforts
This is the heart of Shiviti—your home base, your community. Whether you’ve walked through our doors or connected from across the globe, your presence and support have helped shape this sacred space.
Now, I turn to you with a personal invitation: Partner with us. Build with us. Belong with us.
Every contribution, large or small, brings us closer to realizing this dream—and ensures that we can continue to provide a spritual home for all who seek it.
On behalf of Rabbanit Devorah and myself - thank you once again for your continued friendship and support.
With deep appreciation, Rabbi Yonatan Y. Halevy Spiritual Leader Shiviti – KehillatShaarHaShamayim

Exciting news! We have secured our larger location for Pesach!
It is with tremendous gratitude to HaKadosh Baruch Hu that we share with you the exciting news that our management has graciously accepted our request to return to our larger unit for Pesach this year!
As of now, Tefillot will remain in our regular location (Suite K), and the Seder and communal meals will take place in our new location (Suite 100).
This will enable us to: 1) accomadate our entire community with visiting family and guests; 2) make the meals more convenient instead of walking back and forth twice a day to the Rabbi and Rabbanit's home; 3)as well as provide a safe space for the children to play during Tefillah.
Due to space limitations, High Holiday Tefillot are open to Kehillah members and regulars only(exceptions may be requested via email for immediate family on case-by-case basis space-permitting), as well as to our visitingShiviti members from around the world.
Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim is a private place of prayer serving local members of the worldwide Shiviti movement.
Holiday Campus Sponsorship Opportunities
We have incurred new expenses in preparing for the holidays and could always use your help.
Kindly consider contributing to our holiday fund by clicking here!
The holidays this year will present us with unprecedented logistical challenges, but the reward of finally being able to be together will make all of it worthwhile.
Only if you 1) have ample free time and 2) are physically able to lift chairs/books/tables/food and wish to volunteer for the Rabbi's logistical team, please email rabbi@shiviti.org.
Want to help but can't commit to the above?
We will inevitably incur unplanned expenses in preparing our new location for the holidays and could always use your help.
Want to make history again? Soft Matzah in San Diego!
Shalom!
We are making history in San Diego once again! Soft Matzah is coming back to town!
The History Every year we reach the famous words in the "Korech" section of the Haggadah:
"In memory of the Bet HaMikdash according to Hillel. This is what Hillel would do when the Bet HaMikdash existed: He would wrap the Matzah and Marror and eat them together, in order to fulfill what is stated, (Shemot 12:15): "You should eat it upon Matzot and Merrorim."
How do you wrap a thin, crunchy cracker? You can't!
So how did Hillel do it? He ate soft Matzah, which is the original form of unleavened bread that our forefathers and mothers ate. The best part is that this Matzah is Kasher for Pesach for both Sepharadim and Ashkenazim!
The News This year was an extremely difficult year for us to obtain Matzah flour. The cost of flour with shipping exceeded $600!
We have once again secured a shipment of special Shemurah Matzah flour, and are setting up a Matzah bakery on Sunday, March 23rd - and are asking you for help to make it happen!
A number of families have already joined us in donating $101 or $180 or $360 to the Matzah effort, and - aside from the tremendous Mitzvah of sponsoring this effort - will receive fresh Matzot for their Seder!
Want To Join? We are reaching out to offer you this tremendous opportunity - do you want to sponsor $101 or $180 or $360 and make history?
Please let me know as soon as you can by responding to this email and/or clicking the link above!
Also, please respond to this email or use the form in the link above to let me know if you will be able to help us volunteer at the bakery on baking day!
Wishing you a holiday of true freedom - and soft Matzah! Rabbi Yonatan Y. Halevy
PS At this point in time, we will not be selling Matzah - it will be reserved for our sponsors only for pickup, and for use at Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim communal meals. PPS If you wish to join in the baking process at our Matzah bakery, you are asked to please attend a mandatory seminarin-person on Thursday night, March 20th at 7:30pm to study all the relevant laws and customs of this fascinating process.

Our 10th Year! Have you had a chance yet?
We have just two days left until the new calendar year begins and I am asking you to please partner with us in promising a bright future for our beloved Shiviti community!

1. Rent. Would you join us in our mission of impacting lives at the Shiviti campus by generously sponsoring a month (or half-month) of rent?
Have you ever watched a seed grow into a mighty tree? Ten years ago, we planted a seed together. Today, that seed has blossomed into a global force of Torah learning and spiritual growth that none of us could have imagined.
When we began this journey, we had a vision of creating an authentic space for Torah learning and spiritual growth. What emerged with HaKadosh Baruch Hu's help over the last decade has exceeded all expectations:
From One Center to Global Impact What started in San Diego has flourished into an international movement that spans continents and cultures. From the bustling streets of New York and Los Angeles to the historic communities of the United Kingdom and the Pacific Northwest, from Mexico City and Ecuador to our nation's capital in Washington DC, our teaching has found fertile ground among like-minded Jewish communities. Each new location becomes not just a point on a map, but a living branch of our ever-growing Shiviti family.
The Numbers Tell a Story of Transformation Each number represents countless moments of connection and growth:
Hundreds of annual classes at our Shiviti Bet Midrash
Weekly Shabbat and holiday prayers as well as
248 festive Shabbat and holiday meals at Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim
More than 1,300YouTube videos reaching 416,410 views (a 35% increase in just one year) through our social media platforms
35 beautiful Neshamot who have joined the Jewish people (3 in the past months alone!) through the Shiviti Bet Din
5,051 members receiving guidance through our Pesach Kashrut Forum
2,976 active learners in our international Shiviti Learning Forum
But numbers alone cannot capture the depth of what we've built together. We see faces illuminate with delight as people weave together fragments of Torah wisdom they've gathered over years, discovering how these pieces form organic and wholesome insights for the first time. We share in the pride of families who stop us on the street to thank us for our help in maintaining a Kosher home with confidence. We experience the profound beauty of people owning their Judaism and taking their religious lives into their own hands. Our members are committed individuals who bring sophisticated perspectives to every discussion. In every class, every prayer, and every meal, we see the strength of a community of friends growing together in Torah, supporting each other on this sacred journey.
Your Role in Our Future As we stand on the threshold of 2025, we find ourselves at a transformative crossroads. Our growth brings new opportunities to impact more lives, but it also brings greater responsibility. We invite every individual who has found meaning through Shiviti's programs to join us as partners in this journey:
Monthly Partnership Opportunities. Become a recurring donor, knowing that your regular support directly enables our work.
Special Year-End Gifts. Donate any amount meaningful to you, knowing that your support today assists us tremendously in serving you better.
Campus Sponsors. By supporting our monthly campus costs– whether in full or half portions– you help lift a significant financial weight from our community. This enables us to focus our energy and resources on nurturing Shiviti's global family and expanding our educational reach.
Your partnership, in any form, doesn't just sustain our present – it builds our shared future.
A Personal Message Together, we have created something extraordinary. Shiviti is a living testament to what we can achieve together and I am proud to reach out about supporting this sacred mission. This mutual investment in our community's growth is what makes our relationship so special.
Your donation isn't just about maintaining a building or funding programs. It's about ensuring that every person who is a truth-seeker like yourself – has a home. It's about preserving and transmitting the Torah we so love in a way that we love as well. It's about building a future for ourselves and our families that will continue to flourish and transform lives. Every time we engage as a Shiviti community, I see a living testament to what we can achieve together.
On behalf of Rabbanit Devorah and myself - thank you once again for your continued friendship and support.

Mazal Tov! Baby Boy Halevy Berit Yitzchak (12/5) and Berit Milah (12/6) Information
Schedule - Thursday Evening
7:30pm - Berit Yitzchak: SpecialTorah class in the baby's presence with Rabbi Yonatan Halevy
Schedule - Friday Morning
6:00am - Festive, holiday-style Shacharit at Dawn (Bring your Tallit and Tefillin!)
6:38am - Netz HaChama (Sunrise)
7:15am - Singing and Preparation for the Berit
7:30am* - Berit Milah
8:00am* - Festive Breakfast
*estimated times
Why so early?
The holiest prayer of the day is the sunrise prayer, or Netz HaChamah. In fact, the Shulchan Aruch suggests that praying at Netz could be a greater deed than praying with a Minyan. Avraham Avinu himself awoke early in the morning, as it says "VaYashkem Avraham BaBoker..."
Our Rabbis have taught us that "Zerizin Makdimin L'Mitzvot" - one should hurry to do a Mitzvah as soon as possible. In this case, it is our sincere wish to bring Baby Halevy into the family of Avraham Avinu as early as possible on the eighth day - which begins at sunrise.
Additionally, Morenu HaRav Yaakov Peretz zt"l taught that at sunrise, no evil exists in the world. The evildoers and their friends are all fast asleep in bed, leaving the lines of communication to HaKadosh Baruch Hu the clearest of all. With the birds chirping as the sun rises, we hope to name Baby Halevy as a proud member of Am Yisrael!
We cannot wait to see you there!

Gifts
Devorah and I thank you for thinking of us at this happy time, but would like to remind you that gifts are not at all necessary!
If you are nonetheless interested in giving a gift, we ask that you kindly consider the gift of a donation to Shiviti as the best option!
Nothing is more meaningful than partnering with us and enabling us to continue our lifelong mission of illuminating the world with the light of HaKadosh Baruch Hu's Torah.

High Holidays at KSH!
Exciting news! We have secured our High Holiday Location!
It is with tremendous gratitude to HaKadosh Baruch Hu that we share with you the exciting news that our management has graciously accepted our request to return to our larger unit for the High Holiday season this year!
High Holiday Tefillot are open to Kehillah members and regulars only(exceptions may be requested via email for immediate family on case-by-case basis, as well as for worldwide Shiviti members, space-permitting).
Message From The Rabbi: Expansion and New Location
Shalom!
After numerous conversations with the Ownership and leasing agency, we are moving full steam ahead with the expansion, b’ezrat Hashem. However, we won’t be able to access the new suite until after the Chagim. There’s no need to worry though, as this was our expected timeline!
We are going to continue with our plan B, which is just as exciting!
We have secured the large space downstairs (Unit 100) with management for holiday meals and an organized childcare center with a teacher. All Tefillot will continue to be held upstairs.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Please Donate – I will attach a link below to a form with opportunities to help us cover the costs incurred from using the temporary space. Thank you for participating!
2. Please Volunteer – We need as many volunteers as possible during the holiday season. First up, we need help this Sunday to move into the larger unit in time for Rosh HaShana. Please reply to this message privately to join “The Rabbi’s Logistics Team” WhatsApp group.
3. Please RSVP – If you haven’t yet registered for the holidays, please reply to this message privately, and I’ll send you the link.
Thank you, and wishing us all a Shana Tova! Rabbi Yonatan Halevy
High Holiday Registration Deadline - Deadline 9/29
Members and regulars who wish to attend any of the High Holiday programming, must register in advance via our online form.
Registration deadline is 9/29 at 1:00pm. To request the link for our online registration form, simply replyto this email or send an email to info@kshsd.org
High holidays this year will present us with unprecedented logistical challenges, but the reward of being able to be together will make all of it worthwhile.
Only if you 1) have ample free time and 2) are physically able and wish to volunteer for the Rabbi's logistical team, please email rabbi@shiviti.org.
Want to help but can't commit to the above?
We will inevitably incur unplanned expenses in preparing for the High Holidays and could always use your help.
With thanks to Rabbi Eddie Rosenberg at Young Israel of San Diego, Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim is able to offer you quality sets of the four species this holiday season!
This is a great opportunity for all men, women and children of our community to take part of this special Mitzvah and obtain their own set of the four species this holiday season! At the very least, each household should bring one set into their home this year!
All proceeds cover the cost of the sets - Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim offers this purely as a service to our community. Please note that this year, prices were slightly raised from previous years.
Anyone who needs financial assistance in obtaining a set can reach out Rabbi Yonatan confidentially.
All orders must be received by Tuesday, October 1st at 10:00am. We will be unable to make any orders with the merchant after that date!
Shabbat programming is open to members and regulars only. No advanced registration required.

It is with a broken heart and eyes full of tears that I inform you of the passing of Mori HaRav Yaakov Peretz zt"l. At the present time, I have no words, but I will share them as soon as HaKadosh Baruch Hu gives me the strength.
The funeral will take place today, in Yerushalayim, at 3:00pm. I ask for those who are able to be there to please accompany my Master and Teacher to his final resting place on my behalf.
As they were crossing, Eliyahu said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” Elisha answered, “Let a double portion of your spirit pass on to me.” “You have asked a difficult thing,” he said. “If you see me as I am being taken from you, this will be granted to you; if not, it will not.” As they kept on walking and talking, a fiery chariot with fiery horses suddenly appeared and separated one from the other; and Eliyahu went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “Oh, father, father! Israel’s chariots and riders!” When he could no longer see him, he grasped his garments and rent them in two. • Melachim (Kings) 2, Chapter 2
