KASHRUT NOTES:
Bishul: As is usually the case in the United States, Bishul Yehudim only follows the Ashkenazi custom. Most - but not all - San Diego Kosher establishments can be asked to put the food on the fire in accordance with the Shulchan Aruch and Sepharadi Kosher standards.
Yashan: As a rule, Yashan is - unfortunately - not a requirement for Kashrut certification in the United States, even though it is a requirement for Sepharadim. Some - but not all - Kosher establishments will be able to provide Yashan upon request.
Eruv
There is an Eruv in University City, though it is not under the auspices of Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim.
Our Rabbi refrains from ruling on matters which he is not personally involved in. Therefore, at this time, Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim cannot independently verify the Kashrut of the Eruv, and encourages all visitors to consult their personal Rav.
Hotels
There are no hotels within walking distance of our community.
If you are interested in Shabbat Hospitality, please contact the office.
Please note that this has become much more difficult to arrange due to COVID-19. Many of our guests have been successful finding a place to stay using websites such as Airbnb and VRBO.
