NEW SERIES! History of Tomorrow begins TODAY at 10:30!
The Shiviti Bet Midrash of San Diego is proud to present a new series of classes with Rabbi Yonatan Halevy!
This series offers fresh perspectives on the individual characters of the Mishnaic and Talmudic sages, the historical contexts in which they lived, and the creativity they brought to the pursuit of Jewish wisdom.
Using the text of Rabbi Binyamin Lau's "Our Sages" as a springboard, we will paint vivid portraits of some of the most central figures in the Talmud, address questions of communal leadership in times of economic hardship, social inequity, cultural tension, and political struggle - issues entirely relevant to today’s sociopolitical climate.
All classes will be held at Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim at 10:30am on Monday mornings beginning June 17, 2019. All are welcome to attend.
We ask that you please reply to this email if you plan to attend.
THE BOOK: "Our Sages" required course text
We will be using Rabbi Lau's “The Sages: Volume One”[Maggid Books / Koren, 2010] for our new series.
As the course will be heavily text-based, it is expected that each attendant has their own book when attending the course.
Though there is a less-expensive, digital version (e-book) of the book available, the Rabbi strongly recommends using a print-copy version for this course. This book is also available in the original Hebrew, and that edition is acceptable as well.
Please reply to this email if you need help with ordering this book.
