A West Orange native, Rabbi Shimshon Jacob is a product of the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School of Livingston NJ. After studying in Israel at Yeshivat HaKotel for two years he attended Yeshiva University in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan, where he acquired a bachelors degree in Jewish Studies, as well as a masters in Teaching and Rabbinic Ordination.
He currently serves as the Director of Jerusalem's Kemach Institute where he strives to create experiential learning, embracing opportunities to bring the content to life.
Having struggled with dyslexia through out childhood and yet succeeded in attaining a higher level of education, Rabbi Jacob has visited major Jewish communities around America speaking on behalf of inclusion and special needs children in our school system. We warmly welcome him to our community!

NEW: Friday Night "Ben Ish Chai" Chavurah
The Ben Ish Chai (בן איש חי) is a standard reference in some Sephardi homes (functioning as "a Sephardi Kitzur Shulchan Aruch") and is widely studied in Sephardi yeshivot. Due to the popularity of this book, the author, Chacham Yosef Hayim of Baghdad came to be known as "Ben Ish Chai", by which he is referred to by many today. The book is a collection of homilies he gave over two years discussing the weekly Torah portion. Each chapter begins with a mystical discussion, usually explaining how a Kabbalistic interpretation of a certain verse relates to a particular halakha, and then continuing to expound on that halakha with definitive rulings.
Rabbi Yonatan will lead the Chavurah in study of the Ben Ish Chai during dessert, every Friday night around 2.5 hours after the meal begins. This week, it is estimated we will begin around 9pm.
